Mac Russian Red vs Etude House Uppity Red Dupe Review
Hi Ladies and Jellyspoons
Today I’m going to let you in on a dupe of one of MAC’s most raved about and best selling lipsticks: Russian Red. It was my very first Back to MAC item and I’ve worn it to death ever since. It’s the perfect blue toned red. Perfect for every season and universally flattering on all skin tones. It comes in a long lasting matte formula, which is by far one of my personal favourites.
I freaked out a little when I got an email from Etude House (only my most favourite Korean Cosmetic brand ever) saying that they are launching a new range of lipsticks. I own so so many of their lipsticks as it is, and I just didn’t know whether I could afford a whole new range, but it turns out that they only repackaged the beloved Dear My Blooming Lips Talk range into sleeker looking tubes, as opposed to their previously more bulky tubes. Not only did they repackage them, but they also categorized them. Where they were previously a hodge podge of different finishes arranged by colour, they are now arranged under finishes as well; for example matte, chiffon etc. So knowing me and my love for matte lippies, I knew right off the bat that I needed to check them out. I realised that I already own most of the matte ones, but I didn’t have this particular red one called Uppity Red. (RD 311 도도한 레드)
Here is a comparison of the packaging:
The one on the left is the original packaging and the one on the right is the new. I much prefer the new, because it’s sleeker and it fits into my lipstick organiser.
When I went home with the new purchase, I was excited to see how it compared with some of my matte lipsticks from MAC, and I found that it is so close, so close to Russian Red that one couldn’t tell the difference, even with a professional eye. Considering Etude House charges $10 for these and if you have VIP membership you can pick it up for a mere $6, I’d say it’s worth the investment, compared to the $15 price tag at MAC.
Here is what they look like in the packaging:

As you can tell, they are pretty darn close. I’d give Uppity Red five stars in dupebility to Russian Red, and I’ve never given five stars in a dupe review before.
Lots of love
